Cary Gepner, architect and longtime Topanga resident, died peacefully on August 8, with his family and friends by his side.
Born in Hollywood, California, he grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended Van Nuys High School. He was the eldest of four children born to Phil and Helen Gepner. He studied Architecture at UC Berkeley and has called Topanga his home since 1984.
Cary took genuine interest in every person he met and always said hello with a smile. He loved to play golf, backpack in the Sierras and make people laugh.
For more than 40 years, Cary helped people realize their dreams through his architecture. His legacy lives on in the homes and hearts of many Topangans.
He is survived by his wife Katy, son Matthew, daughter Erin, son-in-law Evan Wolf and grandson Levi. A beautiful, heartfelt memorial service was held at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum on Tuesday August 12. A tribute to Cary will follow in the September 11 Messenger.
Editors Note: For those who wish to share a written memory of or tribute to Cary in the September 11 issue of the Topanga Messenger, please send them to: firstname.lastname@example.org no later than noon September 1.
