Topanga Tim Survival Tips—Emergency Numbers

Hillside Henry and I seem to be having ongoing discussions about which phones work best during emergencies here in the Santa Monica Mountains. The Los Angeles County Fire Department says it is always best to use a landline and dial 9-1-1. This way you can be located in the event the line goes dead. If you must use a cell phone then call one of the following numbers instead of 9-1-1:

*For fire or medical emergencies dial the Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch at (310) 456-6603.

*For law enforcement emergencies dial (818) 878-1808 at the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

*The CHP can be reached at (818) 888-0980 during office hours.

Make sure you give the operator your cell phone number and exact location.

Remember that these numbers will provide help only if the incident happens here in the mountains. Hillside Henry got really excited about all this information and programmed the numbers into his cell phone. He’ll also add these important numbers to the list he keeps on his car’s visor.

“Topanga Tim” is brought to you by the Topanga Emergency Management Plan as a public service.
