How’s Business? William Holland Electrical—What You Don’t See…

What you don’t see may be hurting you but it can be remedied.

So says William Holland, electrical contractor, owner of Holland Electrical and electromagnetic fields (EMF) consultant, who has been a friendly and familiar face in Topanga and serving Southern California for more than two decades. As an EMF consultant, he specializes in the technical assessment and mitigation of EMF and radio frequencies (RF) that affect some people badly enough to move out of their homes; others sense discomfort but can’t always identify the source.

“I have always had electrical sensitivities,” says Holland, “but didn't realize what it was until I began educating myself and understanding EMF.”

It is estimated that as much as 35 percent of the population suffers from electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS). These people may demonstrate a physiological disorder, characterized by neurological and idiopathic reactions that appear or intensify near sources of EMFs, such as electrical appliances, computers, power lines, mobile phones, electrical transformers, cell towers, or something as simple as incorrectly wired electrical circuits in your home or office.

We're exposed to 100 million times greater man-made EMF radiation than our grandparents were and that exposure grows each year as technology advances. The Earth, itself, produces natural EMF and so does the human body. A healthy body resonates with the Earth’s magnetic field. Man-made EMFs disturb the human body's natural electromagnetic field.

Scientists studying autism in the last few decades have also found a correlation between EMF exposure and autism. The California Department of Developmental Services has documented a dramatically steady increase in the number of autism cases since 1987 (pathophysiologyjournal.com/article/s0928-4680%2813%2900037-0/abstract ).

In 2002, the California Department of Health Services (DHS) released a report on the risks of EMF exposure: “To one degree or another, all three of the scientists are inclined to believe that EMF's can cause some degree of increased risk of childhood leukemia, adult brain cancer, Lou Gehrig's disease and miscarriage." (ehib.org/emf/RiskEvaluation/riskeval.html). ADD research done in America and in Europe has indicated there may be a causal link between exposure to EMF radiation and the development of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Making a concerted effort to control the amount of EMF pollution in our homes, schools and workplaces may limit and even eradicate symptoms of ADHD observed in both children and adults.

Quoting from the Indian philosopher, Osho, “The less people know, the more stubbornly they know it,” Holland concurs: “Education and awareness are two key components to a healthier, more comfortable environment,” he says. “Fortunately, education about the potential health risks of EMF has grown substantially in the last two decades.

“We can be pro-active about reducing or eliminating EMF fields,” Holland suggests, “by doing online research about the potential health risks associated with EMF, then hiring a consultant to assess and mitigate any EMF fields that may be causing unsettled discomfort in your environment before remodeling or purchasing a house. Working with a realtor, for example, who has knowledge and understanding of potential EMF health risks can also help the buyer purchase a ‘clean’ house before making it their home.”

We love our modern life with all the conveniences of technology, so how do we protect our community, our family and pets? To start with, Holland recommends these ways to reduce EMF radiation in your life right now:

• When the days are short, maximize use of daylight and minimize use of electricity in your home by rising with the sun and going to bed early.

• Do things manually whenever you can instead of using electricity as a matter of convenience or habit.

• Keep bedrooms free of electrical appliances, especially near your head. For example, unplug lamps, electric alarm clocks and computers.

Becoming aware of his own hypersensitivity to EMFs and RFs seems to have turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Holland and definitely for those he has helped.

“I always wanted to be a chiropractor but ended up an Electrical Contractor, which is what happens when you fail entry level biology. It gives me great satisfaction to help those who are sensitive to EMF to experience peace and comfort in their living and work environments.”

Holland Electrical clients include medical professionals, entertainment industry leaders, realtors, architects, building biologists, general contractors and homeowners living and working in the Topanga community and surrounding areas, and as far south as San Diego.
