Artisan Knife Sharpening at Topanga Farmers’ Market

Local craftsman, musician and all-around technical consultant Scott King will be providing artisan knife sharpening services at the Topanga Farmers’ Market on August 1, and every first Friday of the month thereafter (September 5, October 3, November 7, and December 5).

Using six progressively finer grades of stones and strop grits, Scott sharpens all kinds of knives, except serrated ones, by hand, to a very fine edge. Some say he gets them scary sharp!

Basic sharpening is $5, but most knives need a new edge the first time, which is an additional $1 per inch of blade. For example, a knife with a 10-inch blade would be $15 for the first sharpening, and $5 per sharpening thereafter, as long as the blade is kept in reasonable shape.

Scott is happy to discuss proper knife care, use of a honing steel, sharpening theory and practice, and whatever else is of interest to his customers. With just a little proper care, your knives will stay sharp for longer than you might think. A honing steel, used regularly, works very well keeping edges sharp.

Come support your Topanga Farmers’ Market, bring your knives, and get them sharpened while you shop for great local veggies and other good stuff!

The Farmers’ Market is held at the Topanga Community House, 1440 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd, Topanga, CA 90290 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
