Topanga Film Festival 10th Anniversary Celebration Event, June 6

Can you believe 10 years have passed since Urs and Sara Baur started the Topanga Film Festival (TFF) with a projector, a handful of films, and a large white sheet tied up in the trees of their own back yard?

The great success of that first year has taken the TFF family on a truly wild ride. Honored as “one of the 25 coolest film festivals in the world” by Filmmaker Magazine, the open-air festival has come to reflect the international and eclectic taste of its community.

TFF’s 10th Annual festival will be held July 17- 20 and will include premiers of documentary and feature films, a short film competition, a dance film showcase, industry panels, workshops, interactive installations, networking opportunities, awards, and parties.

Maestro Kim Allen Kluge, acclaimed conductor, composer and pianist, will perform with his wife, Kathryn, at Topanga’s Tuscali Mountain Inn.

To help raise funds and awareness for its 10-year anniversary, TFF is offering a “Friends of the Fest” pass to the Friends of the Fest Appreciation Party, Friday June 6. The evening will feature Maestro Kim Allen Kluge, acclaimed conductor, composer and pianist, who will perform with his wife, Kathryn, at Topanga’s Tuscali Mountain Inn. The Topanga Film Festival “Friends” event, entitled “Music that Changed the World…and Influenced Cinema,” will feature live music ranging from Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” to music by John Lennon and “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables.

The Kluges have recently moved to Topanga, drawn by the climate and natural beauty of Southern California. They are both cinephiles and have started to compose film music together at their Moon Valley Ranch Studio (Moonvalleyranchmusic.com). Recent film composing projects range from a commission from The National Gallery to working with acclaimed Hollywood director and producer, Barnet Bain, on a film adaptation of Eckhart Tolle's acclaimed book, “Milton's Secret.”

Music’s unique power to affect positive change in the world is the theme that resonates throughout the Kluges’ work and permeates everything they do from Kathryn's piano teaching to their composing for cause-based films.

The Kluges’ collaborations go beyond the music-composing table—they also enjoy playing piano duos together—but their greatest collaboration, and their incentive to put down roots in Topanga, is the recent birth of their first child, Lily Katarina! Help TFF celebrate its 10th year in continuing to provide Topanga Canyon with its very own boutique film festival. If you haven’t attended TFF yet, this is the year to do it. They are going all out by primarily showcasing the extraordinary talent of Topanga’s filmmakers.

As this is truly a community event, TFF has developed a unique Friends of the Fest program to enable our locals to have special access to the festival and for TFF to show its gratitude.

For your $250 contribution you will receive:

• Two Passes to several Friends of the Fest Appreciation Events

• A $125 tax deduction (Topanga Film Institute, 501 (c) 3 non-profit)

• Two VIP Festival Passes to screenings, receptions, private parties and gala events

• On-screen acknowledgement at the Opening and Closing Night Galas

• Credit in the printed program under Friends of the Fest
