Topanga Canyon is home to many creative souls and often the solitude so treasured in the Canyon can make traditional networking a challenge. Happily, that will soon change with the formation of the Topanga Authors Group. The Topanga Authors Group will offer community to writers, who often work alone and dont have a traditional networking avenue. The group may serve as a springboard to writing circles, writers groups and other sharing avenues.
This new group of local Topanga authors will participate in a kick-off Literary Gathering at the Library on May 30 at 7 p.m.
There will be refreshments served at the event co-hosted by The Friends of the Library and the Topanga Library.
All interested Topanga writers are invited to attend this networking event where there will be opportunities for not only networking, but also planning and a sign-up for an ongoing series of author talks and book signings. Authors will be able to display their books and bios at this initial event and a window display of books by local authors will also be featured in the outside display case beginning in mid-May.
The Topanga Authors Speakers Series hopes to be a monthly evening event, open to the public, at the Topanga Library, and co-sponsored by the Library and Friends of the Library.
In the works is a Fall Book Festival, themed book talks. There is discussion of expanding the series to include publishers, editors and agents in the Canyon. All authors are welcome to join the group including those traditionally published, self-published, those with works in progress and audio books.
The monthly Author Speakers Series will provide an opportunity for authors to promote and sell their books, speak to an interested audience and expand the literary culture of the Canyon.
The Topanga Authors Speakers Series will be a great use of the Topanga Library meeting space and an expansion of the already established programs and events at the library including Parent/Child Workshops, the Kids Book Club, WordPress Meet-up, Teen Book Club, and special musical events.
Local author Sue Ganz-Schmitt has also created a Facebook page: Topanga Authors as a place for those who are part of the Topanga community to gather and share.
All local authors are invited to join this page and share information about your books.
