The cast of Peter Pan, Jr., consisting of 105 children from Topanga Charter Elementary School, will perform the show on March 14, 15 and 16.

The curtain flies open for Topanga Elementary Charter School's annual musical with Disney’s Peter Pan Jr. playing at Class Act Musical Theater in Woodland Hills starting on Friday, March 14, for four performances through Sunday, March 16. The 90-minute musical, designed for elementary school performers, is based on the book by J.M. Barrie and the 1953 Disney film.

“This year’s turnout of talent was outstanding so we had to double cast the show,” says Producer Sue Schmitt. “In addition to 105 children in the play, our stage crew program, led by Martin Schmitt, has 35 children helping to create the set pieces and props and help run the show.

“We are delighted to have Jill Williams, who founded this program seven years ago, returning in the Director’s seat along with Jaya Ely who directed Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr. in 2013. Kristy Beauvais, founder of the FocusFish aerial arts program, generously shares her talents in directing the pirates, Indians, mermaids, fairies, Lost Boys and Darling children to dance and fly.”

Peter Pan Jr. is the story of the boy who wouldn’t grow up and the girl who has to. After finding his shadow in the Darling family nursery, Peter teaches Wendy, Michael and John how to fly and sweeps them off to NeverNever Land, where they meet the Lost Boys, mermaids, Indians and, of course, pirates.

If the children are ever to return home, Peter must defeat Captain Hook with the help of Tinker Bell and her fairy friends. Peter Pan Jr. features classic songs from the 1953 film such as “You Can Fly!” “Following the Leader” and “The Second Star to the Right,” as well as songs from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and the 2008 Disney film Tinker Bell.

A performance of Disney’s Peter Pan Jr. is open to the public at Class Act Musical Theatre on March 14 at 7 p.m.; March 15 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and on March 16 at 2 p.m. Admission is $14; children under two are free.
