"Cog Bra" by Donald Gialanella will be featured at the art auction on March 28.
Sculptor Donald Gialanellas (www.DonSculpture.com) work, entitled Cog Bra, will be a special addition to the Sixth Annual What A Pair fundraising event and silent auction sponsored by the Soroptimists of the Los Angeles Harbor (SILAH) on March 28 at the Croatian Cultural Center in San Pedro.
The piece was made especially for the charity auction and is constructed of transmission gears and fluted stainless steel plates welded together in an assemblage technique.
For those who dont want to wait until March 28, SILAH is offering a sneak peek of the shows decorated bras during the FirstThursday Art Walk on March 6, at fINdings Art Center. Discounted What A Pair tickets will be on sale for one night only!
The event will include a live model, sketched by local artists, (whose work for the evening will be auctioned), as well as the display and auction of an array of art works.
Proceeds from the silent auctions decorated bra entries and other representations of the feminine form will go to support the fight against breast cancer at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro, as well as other organizations which strive to improve the lives of women and children in the Harbor community.
SILAH is a group of local activists who are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realize aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide. SILAH conceived What A Pair as a way to raise funding and awareness, in order to give underserved women in the Harbor area easier access to mammography services.
Gialanellas recent commissions include projects from the Cities of Napa and Pasadena in 2013. He also received a commission in 2014 from the Lucille Packard Childrens Hospital in Palo Alto, CA, for a landmark lobby sculpture. Last summer he was asked by Arrow Electronics, an international electronics firm based in Denver, CO, to create an Orb sculpture entitled Motherboard Earth. Gialanellas other credits include an Emmy award-winning broadcast graphics producer.
