The annual chili dinner for our firefighters at Station 69 took place on Feb. 9. While a small gathering due to limited space at the station, it always proves to be fun getting to know them and having them know how much the community supports them. Special thanks to Laura Bateman and Linda Leonard who made the scrumptious chili, as well as to Karla Morrison, Becca Barkin, Tanya Starcevich and Flavia Potenza for bringing the rest of the goodies. Salads, cornbread, pie and brownies were a great compliment to the Bateman's award-winning chili. The stories are always entertaining. This time it was the goat on the roof that had us rolling over with laughter, definitely one for the books. The food was delicious and I think Manfred Schlosser would approve continuing his lifelong dream of feeding our firemen with love. They, after all, protect our homes and loved ones during the darkest of times. This is one event that I look forward to each year.
