Coaching Your Way to Paradise

One evening in late September, about 25 people gathered in a conference room on the second floor of a Santa Monica hotel. Having received an invitation for this high-powered coaching event, I let my sweetie know it would be good, and he signed us up. We met at the Raw Star Cafe for dinner then walked over.
Ive known the host for over twenty years. He has an ability to facilitate extraordinary experiences through high-quality coaching methods. Although I trusted this would be a great time, I was in for a few surprises.
Roberto and I entered the room a bit late. A couple dozen chairs formed a horseshoe, facing Justin, a member of the coaching team who was leading a warmup. He wore a red cotton dress shirt, black jeans, and black leather shoes. His posture spoke volumes, and his presence was simultaneously commanding and welcoming, the kind of man Id hire as a trainerin anything.
After warming up, Claude took his place. She is a beautiful woman with coffee skin and a spherical halo of dark brown hair. She also wore black denim jeans and a red dress shirt, a black belt wrapped around her slender waist. She sat down, knees about four feet apart, a bold and powerful position for a woman, especially a woman holding center stage. I liked her the moment Id met her, at one of Adam Wohlbergs Ensohara events.
After she led the introduction, and everyone was fully present in the room, we began the main event.
Our host, a black belt level coach, shared several powerful tools. At some point, he asked us to close our eyes and listen to a series of questions designed to help clarify our lifes purpose. Id come mostly to expose Roberto to the teachings, but I couldnt help receiving my own miracles, and this exercise gave me the first of three profound gifts I would receive that night. Through my answers, I realized the most important thing I need to do before I die. I cannot imagine a more profound piece of information. For anyone.
Following the main presentation, each member of this powerful coaching team offered a mini session. One person in each group had the chance to be the client, and the other participants played supporting roles. First timers had priority.
I chose Justins group and prepared to witness someone elses session.
I considered myself a demo-queen, always with my hand in the air to experience the teachers work, firsthand, for free, in front of the class, but again, Id come to this event mostly for my honey. My life is so beautiful: I love what I do; I love my man, my school, my children; I own a home in Topanga; and I have fabulous, spiritually based support teams in place for my finances, relationships, health, and time. No drama. All is well. I need no coaching.
However, our group had no first timers, and my coach chose to work with me. This was my second surprise: I dont have to need coaching in order to receive amazing bennies. Coaching is a high level resource. Nothing has to be broken in order to receive its transformational impact. Ask any Olympic athlete.
We began, and I shared my goal, the answer Id discovered during those powerfully simple questions, the goal that surprised me so, because it has nothing to do with my children, my relationships, music, or work. It sounded luxurious, meaningless, selfish. However, it is as real as my children, my man, my work. It is simply this: I want to bear witness to the most beautiful places on the planet before I die. This will make my life worthwhile at a deep level.
I shared a memory with my team: Many years ago, on a family camping trip to Kings Canyon, I ventured off path early one morning, to be alone. Surrounded by trees, I had a spiritual awakening: It was possible that no one else had stood where I was standing or seen the beauty that I could see in the trees. No one. Ever. I realized that this awareness, appreciation, and communion with natural beauty is enough to give life meaning, to make it worthwhile. I vowed then to see, to truly see, the most beautiful places on the planet. However, I was a stay-at-home mom. We lived week to week with no money to spare. Certainly not for travel. I forgot my promise. Until September 25, 2013.
In the session, I also discovered that Im not attached to who goes with me. I can go alone. Any companion will be someone who appreciates the wonder, the splendor of Nature, someone who knows how to play, how to laughand how to be in silence. (A good back rub is also a plus!)
By the end of my session, Id itemized several resources already in place for me to realize my goal, and Id committed to one small action I could take right away. When asked what the obstacles were, I thought of only one: money. Then I received my third surprise: Money is no longer a valid excuse. My next ghostwriting contract will easily fund the first excursion, and several projects are hovering.
At home, I Googled Most beautiful places on the planet, downloaded 59 images, and chose my first ten destinations. I also spoke with a girlfriend and asked her where she would like to travel. Were planning a trip for 2014.
She, Roberto, and I all went on a Visions Retreat last weekend, and I made a vision board filled with places Ill go.
I invite you to have your own transformational coaching experience. We have so many fabulous local coaches.
If you know one, call them today. If not, feel free to contact me for a list of my favorites. Some of the most powerful resources are free, and Im happy to share my list of resources with you.
