Rep. Waxman Urges Speaker Boehner to End Republican Shutdown
October 17, 2013 -
WASHINGTON, DC Rep. Henry A. Waxman, along with 199 House Democrats, sent a letter Oct. 5 urging House Speaker Boehner to hold a vote on the Senate-passed continuing resolution that would end the government shutdown.
Democrats have already offered seven motions on the floor of the House of Representatives to bring up the continuing resolution for a vote and the House GOP has blocked a vote each time.
Speaker Boehner told the nation that there arent enough votes in the House to pass the Senates continuing resolution," said Rep. Waxman. That is simply not true. Two hundred Democrats are on record in support of passing the continuing resolution and enough Republicans have come out in support of it that it could pass the House with a bipartisan majority.
