Anam Cara Offers Hospice Volunteer Training, Oct. 18-20
October 3, 2013 -
Los Angeles Hospice at Anam Cara's 20-Hour Course Will Teach How to Help Provide a Peaceful, Dignified End-of-Life Experience.
TOPANGA, CALos Angeles Hospice at Anam Cara is offering an intensive 20-hour course the weekend of October 18-20 in Topanga on how to provide comfort and emotional support to home hospice patients. The hours are Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The private address will be provided to registrants.
Accredited by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, the training is suitable for volunteers, professional caregivers and others wishing to provide terminally ill people with a peaceful, dignified end-of-life experience. The course is customized for home hospice volunteers but utilizes the curriculum of The Twilight Brigade, a national non-profit hospice training and veteran service organization.
The training will be led by Mitcheal A. Metzner, PhD, M.Ed., Los Angeles Hospice at Anam Cara CEO and former Los Angeles Chapter director and lead trainer for The Twilight Brigade; Los Angeles Hospice at Anam Cara CFO Gabe Gelbart; and Shelley Whizin, CEO of Soul Diving Institute and a Board Member of Los Angeles Hospice at Anam Cara.
"Hospice volunteer training helps participants confront their own fears and sometimes hidden obstructions in our psyche, allowing for a deeper consciousness about being present and bearing witness to the life of another," notes Dr. Metzner. "Sitting bedside as a volunteer or with a personal loved one can be richer and fuller as a result of the training."
A donation of $200 or more is suggested for each participant, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds. The Los Angeles Chapter of The Twilight Brigade will receive 50 percent of up to $100 of each donation. All donations are processed through Los Angeles Hospice at Anam Cara's fiscal sponsor, the Center for Conscious Creativity.
Space is limited so advance registration is required. Contact Dana Bigman at (310) 478-6596;
