Parents, children and school staff celebrated the start of the school year on Saturday, Sept. 21, with Topanga Elementarys Back-to-School Picnic and Pool Party under the spreading oaks at Cali Camp at Big Rock Ranch.
A dedicated team of moms, dads and other volunteers provided a groaning board of homemade dishes, all very healthy and delicious. Even the desserts tasted far too good to be healthy, but we know they were.

Topanga Elementary alumni and students creatively decked themselves out in blue raffle tickets that they sold to raise funds for the schools Topanga Enrichment Program (TEP). Student, Lucas Lombardo, won an iPad Mini.
Kids frolicked on the boat next to Huck Finns Fishing Hole, while Ellie Conrad, who admits shes really a cat person, couldnt resist Marianne Bordiers goats, Ralph and Ed, named for The Honeymooners.

Donna Fedorowycz volunteered to decorate the kids with her face-painting skillshopefully after swimmingand musician Tim OGara entertained with Folk and Bluegrass songs.
As with any big Topanga event, the Fire Station 69 crewEd Marroquin, Jesse Diaz and Jose Astaciawere there to make sure things went smoothly and showed their support for the Topanga Messenger, which is promoting a subscription drive at the school that will donate 50 percent of its proceeds to TEP.
Although she admits that she’s “really a cat person”, Ellie Conrad couldn’t help but visit with teacher Marianne Bordier and her precocious goats Ralph and Ed who were named after the television show, The Honeymooners.
