Use Snap Traps and Natural Predators Instead of Poisonous Rodenticides

A pair of owls in the trees of Topanga.
I was quite disturbed after reading the article in the latest Messenger re: Dead Bobcat Found in Topanga (Dead Bobcat Found in Topanga, Messenger, Vo. 37, No. 17, August 22, 2013) In the past few months we have noticed some coyotes cruising around upper Tuna Canyon with mange. I believe all of us as a community need to urge our neighbors about the hazards of anticolagulant rat poison. Some people are new here in Topanga and need to be educated. I personally have not used it. I have much success with snap type traps. I enclose a picture of some owls who live and raise their families right here in our canyon. Once they establish themselves they are great for keeping the rat, gopher and rodent populations in check. n
