"Stillness": Photography by Felice Willat, Paintings by Paula Fagan, Aug. 28-Sept. 22

“Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen; /then stillness becomes a radiance." —Morgan Freeman.

"A great silent space that holds all of nature in its embrace, also holds you." —Eckhart Tolle

The Topanga Canyon Gallery will present an exhibit entitled "Stillness," of new photography by Felice Willat and paintings by Paula Fagan, August 28 through September 22.

An artists' reception will be held on Sunday, September 8, from 3-6 p.m. A variety of teas will be served accompanied by acoustic guitar music and poetry reading.

Felice Willat—Widely recognized for her sophisticated color photography of Southeast Asia, Willat has developed in her new “Stillness” series a unique mode of black-and-white photography tinged with occasional splashes of green and brown. The stunning results bring viewers to a meditative state in which we can find a place inside to reflect on our super busy lifestyles. Her “Stillness” series is the result of her recent trip to the Huangshan Mountains of China, where she immersed herself in contemplative landscape photography, creating a synthesis of photography and traditional Chinese landscape painting, fusing art with the Buddhist concept of seeing with mindfulness and stillness.

Paula Fagan—Paula's "Stillness" series is a result of her travels on a yellow brick road that started in Kansas, and led her to Nepal, Mexico, Panama, Europe and Belize. Her travel, infused with her personal meditation practice has served as the inspiration for her emotionally vulnerable hand-painted hanging glass vessels entitled "Inspherations."

Visitors will also see Fagan's heavily textured canvasses saturated with color painted from a place within her soul. Living and working with children at an orphanage in Belize for three years inspired her to create her new collection of "Spirit Girls." As you look into the mystical eyes of the "Spirt Girl" paintings, "What you see of me, is what you know of yourself."

"Stillness" runs August 28–September 22; artists' reception: Sunday, Sept. 8, 3-6 p.m., at Topanga Canyon Gallery, 120 N. Topanga Canyon Boulevard, #109, Topanga, CA 90290. For information about the artists and gallery:;;
