A fundraiser for local belly dancer, Napali, is planned for Friday, Sept. 13, 5-11 p.m., at the Community House. An artist in visual and performing arts, Napali has lived in and around Topanga for 15 years. She also makes beautiful jewelry, which will be among the silent auction items. She has been part of almost every belly dance performance at Topanga Days and Topanga Earth Day, for the last six years, with Topanga Tribe, and Melanie Kareem's dance troupe, We Are Baladi. Napali has also participated in many local fundraisers and events for the community, and danced with Topanga Tribe for Johnny Burton Sterners fundraiser to help him through his battle with cancer last November.
Less than two months later, Napali, who has been a dialysis patient for more than half her life, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is unable to work and barely gets by with disability funds from the government and the fundraiser will help with her living expenses and bills.
She is an amazing inspiration to all and the strongest person I know, says friend and fellow belly dancer Devon Farr. Her strength, kindness and passion are remarkable and I am honored to be her friend. Whether or not you know her, please join us for a great night of celebration to honor Napali and her battle for health.
The event is organized by Devon Farr, Julie Mackenelli, Elise Mallove and Robin Welch, with help from Megan Greene, Melanie Kareem, Tessa May and will be emceed by Adrian Wright, a local realtor and close family friend.
There will be music, dancing, food and drink, including beer, wine and a fresh juice bar by Maiden Topanga Juice Elixers for sale; a silent auction and raffle with great items including a week-long stay at a beautiful vacation home in Mexico donated by Sarah Sutton; art pieces; $150 gift certificate for Michael's restaurant; beautiful hand-crafted jewelry by Napali; belly dance costumes; yoga class passes; massages and more.
Entertainment will include performances by Melanie Kareem's Dance School; Hani Naser; Solutionagenix; Katty Gliecher; and Michele Capra.
The Topanga Community House is located at 1440 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Topanga, CA 90290. A donation of $10 is suggested. For more information: firstname.lastname@example.org; or to donate: giveforward.com/fundraiser/86v2/support-napali-s-battle-for-health.
