TreePeople leads volunteer events nearly every weekend to restore ecosystems in the
Santa Monica Mountains, preventing fire danger and benefiting biodiversity. Now,
thanks to a gift from Victoria Principal, itís easy to support these projects by using
In partnership with the Mountains Restoration Trust and the United States Forest Service, TreePeople volunteers replant fire-damaged mountain forests and recently completed a three-year project involving more than 2,400 volunteers who planted 22,660 trees to help restore the areas burned by the devastating 2009 Station Fire in the Angeles National Forest.
TreePeoples work is essential for preventing the frequency and intensity of fires within the areas surrounding the Santa Monica Mountains from the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles to Point Mugu in Ventura County where more than half a million people are directly affected by fire danger.
This years fire forecast is severe. Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby says this is probably the most volatile fire season thats projected based on our 100-year history.
Ms. Principals gift tremendously magnifies our impact by giving us the tools to involve thousands more people in preventing and responding to fire danger, says TreePeople Founder and President Andy Lipkis.
TEXT TO VOLUNTEER, TEXT TO GIVE
The mobile technology funded by Principal enables the public to participate in this critical work by simply texting from their mobile phones.
For those wishing to sign up as volunteers in TreePeoples hands-on ecological restoration efforts, its as simple as texting TREE followed by their full name and e-mail to 51555.
