Seventh Annual West Hollywood Women’s Leadership Conference, April 19

 

Kick-off event to be Friday April 19, with keynote address from Geena Davis; conference set for Saturday, April 20.

Actress Geena Davis, founder of the Geena Davis Institute for Gender in Media and Chair of the California Commission on the Status of Women, will give a keynote address to open the seventh annual West Hollywood Women’s Leadership Conference: “Unlimited Opportunities—Knowledge. Power. Community,” on Friday, April 19, 7 to 10 p.m. The conference continues on Saturday, April 20.

The mission of the West Hollywood Women’s Leadership Conference, inspired by the City’s Core Values, is to provide tools and support for women to be successful leaders in their private lives, in business and in the community. 


The kick-off event will be held at the Pacific Design Center’s Silver Screen Theatre, 8687 Melrose Avenue. Los Angeles, CA TKTK. Following Davis’ keynote address, there will be a screening of the Academy Award-nominated film, Invisible War, a powerful documentary about sexual assault against women in the military.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Maria Hall-Brown, Executive Producer for Arts and Culture programming at PBS SoCal, and a “Call To Action” dessert reception. Panelists will include the documentary’s director, Kirby Dick, and producer Amy Ziering; Alison Gill, US Navy Veteran; and Madeline DiNonno, Executive Director of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.

The leadership event and conference will take place on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at West Hollywood Park, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. The morning plenary keynote speaker is inspirational speaker Agapi Stassinopoulos, author of “The Unbinding Heart;” attorney and activist Sandra Fluke; and Patti Giggins, Executive Director of Peace Over Violence, will be featured on the keynote luncheon panel entitled “Leadership Under Fire.”

This daylong event is geared toward women who live, work and play in West Hollywood and will feature dynamic speakers, informative panels and valuable resources, expert-led trainings, a continental breakfast and a keynote luncheon.

Workshop and panel topics include advancing the representation of women in leadership arenas, the power of mentorship, entrepreneurship, women in technology, civic involvement and how to get appointed to a city board or commission.

There will also be a special leadership program for young women aged 15-21. Conference co-sponsors include The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, ITVS Women and Girls Lead, and PBS SoCal.

There is limited seating and registration is required. Admission is free for the Friday night kick-off. Admission for the Saturday conference is $35 Early, $45 Advance, $55 the day of the event. The senior/fulltime student rate is $15.
