Benita Bike’s DanceArt Performs in Hollywood Concert

Benita Bike’s DanceArt Company brings new, exciting dance work to the Assistance League Playhouse in Hollywood on Saturday, April 13.

The five-member DanceArt Company has been presenting ageless modern dance for 32 seasons and the company is a fixture on the contemporary dance scene in Los Angeles.

Like a string quintet, the dancers of Benita Bike’s DanceArt perform with uncommon sensitivity to one another, bringing intense beauty and vibrancy to each delicately crafted, movement. The company is known for its elegant performance, musicality, dramatic use of space and gesture to make sensitive observations on life.

Benita Bike’s choreography stands at the crossroads of past and present, blending the music and sensibilities of the past with evocative contemporary movement. The company has performed from the California coast to New England and abroad, bringing both concert dance and unique interactive outreach performances to audiences.

Benita Bike’s DanceArt will be premiering Through the Lens, a new work accompanied by quirky and surprising music by Hans Reichl, Barry Hall, and John Beck. The fantastical instruments used in these compositions are made from various non-standard materials, and the movement that this music inspires is completely surprising.

Benita Bike’s DanceArt will also present four other works: Currents and Eddies, set to guitar music by composer Lou Harrison, reflects the different moods and movements of water. Southern Memories, a poignant, dramatic and energetic trio set to old traditional tunes from the Southern United States. Entrelazadas means "interlaced" in Spanish. This dance traces the relationships among three women and is set to guitar and vocal music by Spanish composers Juan del Enzina, Gaspar Sanz, and Joaquin Rodrigo. Eternal Encounter, to music by Barry Hall, is a fable of good and evil encountering one another repeatedly throughout time.
