Topanga cellist Lilyan Garside, center will play with the L.A.Youth Orchestra on February 25 at Carnegie Hall. Other concerts include UCLA on April 14 and Colburn School of Music on April 15.

Twelve-year-old cellist, Lilyan Garside, daughter of Babe Kirkpatrick and Nicholas Garside, will be performing in The Los Angeles Youth Orchestra (LAYO), at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, Feb. 25, under the artistic direction of Russell Steinberg. Lilyan, currently a sixth grader at Ocean Charter School, studies cello with Gwyneth Bravo, and earlier was inspired to take up the instrument by her brother, Coleman, a freshman at Pali High.

In 2010 Lilyan had her debut solo performance at the Topanga Talent Show fundraiser. She sang a traditional folk song then played the melody on her cello.

After Carnegie Hall she will have two more concert performances with LAYO this Spring; at UCLA's Schoenberg Hall on April 14, and at the Colburn School of Music, Zipper Hall, on April 15.

Lilyan plans on attending Interlochen this summer to further her musical studies and also enjoys reading, creative writing and running.
