“America Recycles Day” in Malibu, Nov. 15-30

Malibu will host two events at Malibu City Hall to celebrate America Recycles Day and promote waste reduction, composting, reusing products and materials and purchasing recycled products.

Community Shred Day will take place Thursday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited to bring documents to be shredded and recycled at no cost.

The Household Battery Recycling event will be held Nov. 15-30. The City will collect batteries in the Senior Center and in the reception area during regular business hours.

“By celebrating America Recycles Day, we can further promote recycling as an environmentally efficient and economically intelligent habit,” said Mayor Lou La Monte.

The City Council’s declaration of America Recycles Day is one of many ways Malibu has successfully communicated its commitment to environmental stewardship and education.

Last year in Malibu, nearly 900 tons of bottles, cans, paper and electronic waste were recycled.

Now the City is striving to help the State meet its goal of diverting 75 percent of waste from landfills by 2020. Most recently, Malibu switched over to the utilization of electronic notices and rechargeable batteries and encourages citizens to do the same.

Malibu City Hall is located at 23825 Stuart Ranch Road, Malibu; (310) 456-2489 ext. 283.
