Fundraiser for Longtime Topanga Resident, Johnny Sterner, Nov. 18

Johnny Burton Sterner faces aggressive cancer treatment. A community fundraiser is planned to provide support for him and his family, Nov. 18 from 4-9 p.m.

Living in Topanga is a beautiful thing. Our love for this canyon connects us all like a big family. One of the greatest aspects about being a part of a community is our ability to show support for our own in times of need.

Many of you know Johnny Burton Sterner who has lived in the Malibu and Topanga area for more than 28 years. He is a loving father, an avid surfer, and an all-around loving and open person. Driving around Topanga in his blue truck, big smile on his face, and often accompanied by a little white Chihuahua tucked safely in his jacket, he is a staple in our community.

Johnny is in for a difficult journey ahead. He was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma. The next three months will be challenging as his cancer is aggressively treated with chemotherapy and radiation. Due to the intensity of his treatments he will be unable to work and to support himself and his family.

A fundraising event is planned for Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Topanga Community House from 4 to 9 p.m. The evening will feature dinner, drinks, entertainment, live music, a silent auction and a surprise guest. For those of you unable to attend but wish to donate, we have set up an online fundraiser at http://igg.me/p/258825.

Johnny has a difficult journey ahead but he is not going to do it alone. As a community we have done it before and we will do it again—supporting each other through good times and bad. Please join us for an evening of love and support to help our friend through this difficult time. If you are interested in volunteering the evening of the event please email Robin at Robina.Welch@gmail.com.
