“Mirrors of the Mind: The Psychotherapist as Artist,” Sept. 29-30

The Los Angeles County Psychological Association (LACPA) is pleased to announce “Mirrors of the Mind: The Psychotherapist as Artist.”

The first of its kind, this exhibition explores and celebrates the intersection of psychology, arts and creativity in the vibrant Los Angeles mental health community. This special event is a carefully curated mix of both visual and performing arts created by Los Angeles psychotherapists and psychotherapy students, as well as invited presentations on creativity and the power of art — the event is open to the public.

Curated by Topangan Terry Marks-Tarlow, Ph.D., and juried by Robert Bilder, Ph.D., James Catterall, Ph.D., Rebecca Catterall, and Gus Harper—all professionals from both the art and psychotherapy communities.

The various works of art reveal how psychotherapists use their creativity to cross-fertilize, heal, rail against, and renew through self-expression. “Mirrors of the Mind” is a rare opportunity to peer into the normally veiled, private spaces of the psychotherapist. As with therapy sessions themselves, these visual and performance pieces sing of anguish and love.
