Topanga Tim’s Survival Tips — When The Heat’s On, Seniors Suffer

On those ridiculously stupid hot days, most of us either crank up the AC or put on our ice cube underpants. But the elderly and handicapped often just sit in their homes and swelter. And that can cause serious health problems. Fortunately, we’ve got a T-CEP Neighborhood Network set up in my neck of the woods. So I’ve got a contact list of my neighbors with special needs. Whenever the mercury heads north of 90, I make it a point to check in on my elderly neighbors to make sure they are staying cool and hydrated.

Want to organize your own Neighborhood Network? E-mail Rebecca: nn@t-cep.org. It’s also a great way to communicate with each other in all kinds of emergencies like fires, earthquakes and floods.

“Topanga Tim” is brought to you by the Topanga Emergency Management Plan as a public service.
