School Starts Early at Topanga Elementary

School began early this year and on August 17, Topanga Elementary principal, Nicole Sheard, welcomed pupils and parents to a Spirit Assembly where they heard announcements, were introduced to the teachers and learned a new school anthem. Although it was an adjustment to come back in the middle of August, Topanga, like most LAUSD schools, switched to the early-start calendar this year with a goal, among other things, of streamlining testing schedules and allowing for longer vacations. Above, teachers held up the words of the new school anthem written by Ms. Handler that students will be singing throughout the year:

Here’s to Topanga School.

We sing our love to you.

You bring us reading, writing, math and science, too.

Learning days are fun-filled to the end,

and happy voices ‘round the campus blend.

Calling you, with staff, students, aides and parents, too!

Forever here our hearts will stay.
