Malibu Streamlines Recycling Event

Beginning on Saturday, August 18, the City of Malibu will offer six opportunities per year to properly dispose of oil, paint and electronic waste.

The former monthly Oil and Paint Roundup and quarterly Electronic Waste (e-waste) collection events will now take place at City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road, on the third Saturday of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October and December) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The consolidated schedule will decrease carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 50 percent annually, which is equivalent to 24 propane bottles used for home barbeque grills or the carbon sequestered by 15 10-year-old trees. Residents and businesses from Malibu and surrounding communities are encouraged to take advantage of the increased e-waste collections.

Accepted items at Malibu’s events include motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, automotive batteries, latex paint, electronics, compact fluorescent light bulbs and household batteries.

The California Department of Transportation restricts the amount of recycling to a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. Events will be cancelled during rainstorms.

The City has coordinated with neighboring cities to ensure that collection opportunities remain available regionally every month. Neighboring cities of Calabasas and Agoura Hills will continue to hold their collection events in odd-numbered months.
