Topanga Newbie, Katie Goodman, Brings Sketch Comedy to Los Angeles With Haiti Fundraiser Tonight

Following sold-out performances in Boston and New York City, the acclaimed sketch comedy show and winner of the Vancouver Fringe Festival, "Broad Comedy" has made its Los Angeles debut at the Acme Comedy Theatre in Hollywood. Tonight's show will be donate a portion of the proceeds to Haiti Relief.

The show is the brainchild of multi-hyphenated, new-to-Topanga, actress-writer-director Katie Goodman and her husband, playwright and actor Soren Kisiel. The daughter of nationally syndicated columnist Ellen Goodman, she is also a writer, a Keynote Speaker, workshop facilitator, creativity consultant and author of the book, "Improvisation For The Spirit: Live A More Creative, Spontaneous and Courageous Life Using the Tools of Improv Comedy."

In the words of The Boston Globe, "If this irreverent, giddy, snarky, perky collage of satire, sketch comedy and cheerleading doesn't make you laugh, then either you are incapable of laughter or you are Dick Cheney. Or, of course, both…."

Topanga resident, Katie Goodman, is the writer-director of Broad Comedy, a sketch comedy she co-created along with husband, playwright and actor Soren Kisiel.

The "Broads" of "Broad Comedy" are six irreverent and hilarious, multi-talented women who have been called "The Dixie Chicks of American sketch comedy," known for high-energy musical numbers, left-wing politics, women's issues and R-rated shenanigans about, well, women's shenanigans, with numbers like "The United States Extreme Right-Wing Cheerleading Squad" and the teen abstinence movement lampoon, "Saving My Hymen For Jesus."

But don't let the title "Broad Comedy" fool you; this is not an evening of male-bashing jokes. While the show does make for a perfect Girls' Night Out, men, too, lap up the Broads' unique brand of edgy, smart comedy.

Goodman was recently featured on Behind the Green Room Door, the new Showtime series that features candid talk with comedians, hosted and executive produced by comedian Paul Provenza (The Aristocrats) where she performed the "Broad Comedy" hit "These Are The Things I Can't F**king Remember."

Show times are at 8 p.m., every Thursday through March 25 at the Acme Comedy Theatre, 135 N. La Brea Avenue in Hollywood. Tickets are available at www.broadcomedy.com. The show is for mature audiences only.
