From September 1 through 29, the L.A. Artcore, Brewery Annex Gallery will host an exhibit of paintings by Topanga painter E.W. Lane. The 20 thought-provoking works on display are intensely personal, weaving in motifs that contain a sense of history and growth. A unique artist working in both painting and mixed-media sculpture, E.W. Lane reassembles fragments of vision in canvases that incorporate elements of collage. Combining recognizable landscape elements, close-up views of idiosyncratic items such as postage stamps, and abstract passages, Lane tightly interweaves segments to convey an impression that is aptly described in at least one series of work as "Wounded." Her technical aptitude is such that many viewers will be surprised to find that her surfaces are entirely painted.

"I am interested in texture with hidden images. Paintings are almost sentient to me. As an artist, I try to ‘listen' to the canvas with my eyes, and breathe life into it. I equate my process with alchemyusing certain materials to transform them into entirely new elements," states Lane.
E.W. Lane's work may be viewed at L.A. Artcore, Brewery Annex, 650A South Avenue 21, Los Angeles, from September 1 through 29. There will be a public reception and special artist talk on September 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Public hours are Thursday through Sunday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays by appointment. For further information, the public may visit www.ewlane.com or contact the Brewery at (323) 276-9320.
